Black life moves in color — through protests tinted in Grey, ballroom scenes painted in Brown, and kickbacks glowing Black. The Afrocentered Color Series creates a richer, more authentic picture of Black and Black Queer life in our culture. The selection of the photos in this series is based on the composition and harmony through the lens of Color Theory. This series will include a focus on three different colors for each volume, each section highlighting different words associated with the colors featured.

This volume is focused on Grey, Brown, and Black. Tyahra Angus, photographer and lover of anything Black and/or covered in chocolate, captures deeply cultural spaces, using these vibrant colors to invite the audience to make their own personal color based associations.

Within these pages is a celebration of us taking ownership of our own stories. You are invited to get a closer look at my community, our spaces, and our history. At the end of the day, all we really have are our memories.
