On Tuesday December 4, 6:00 - 8:30pm, join Afrocentered Media and Fenway Women’s Health Team for a screening of Rafiki and a panel talkback at Fenway Health, 10th Floor 1340 Boylston St, Boston, MA. Set in Kenya, the movie features a love story between two young women (played by newcomers Samantha Mugatsia and Sheila Munyiva) in a society that still bans homosexuality. Directed by Wanuri Kahiu, RAFIKI is saturated with joy, heartbreak, and a richly effervescent cinematography that showcases Kahiu’s native Nairobi in all its vibrancy. This film centers LGBTQIA+ African people at the intersections of class, religion, health, politics, love, intimacy, with themes centered around coming out and leaving the nest.
This event is free, but space is limited. Register today!
Light refreshments provided. The location is wheelchair accessible and has gender neutral bathrooms.
