Join photographer Tyahra Angus for the launch of The Afrocentered Color Series—a photo book collection that journeys through Black and Black Queer life shaped by color theory and community memory. Enjoy a live reading and book signing with Tyahra and a Q&A moderated by publisher, Destiny Polk of Destined To Shine Publishing. You’re invited to create new memories and keepsakes at the interactive stations including; Polaroid guestbook portraits, bookmark-making, free buttons and signed bookplates. Indulge in signature cocktails inspired by the series’ hues. Come celebrate our stories, our colors, and the spaces that hold our living history.

More about the Author: Tyahra Angus is a Boston-born photographer of Jamaican descent dedicated to expanding the representation of Black and Brown communities in media, particularly Black queer women. She holds a B.A. in English Literature and Africana Studies from Smith College and an MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley University. Alongside her work as an arts and library administrator and educator, she is the founder of AfroCentered Media, a platform she launched in 2015 to amplify Black and Brown voices through photography. Her vernacular portraits and event photography have been exhibited at spaces like MASS MoCA and The Secret Society of Black Creatives, and her work appears in Black Futures (Penguin Random House, 2021). She has partnered with Destined To Shine Publishing, a Black Woman Owned Independent Publishing Company to publish her first collection of photography - a three volume “Afrocentered Color Series”.
